What you’ve been looking for: a needy, interactive, life-sized android

Human touch serves a number of purposes, ranging from utilitarian to playful to erotic. Most touch-sensitive interactive interfaces rely on the purely functional aspects of touch — cause, effect. With this project, a wider range of emotional resonance regarding touch was explored.

Riffing on the idea of the needy friend from the movie “Single White Female,” Single White Android is a needy, touch-sensitive, life-sized android. Touch his glowing red belly and he lights up with a smile. Release it and his lights dim as his arm reaches for you, face crumpling into sadness.
